Well here we go. Trying something long overdue, but what the hell. Haven't figured out whether to keep this formal or informal, comical or serious, high brow or low brow, etc. I believe I am all of the above and I think my work tends to reflect that. In some circles that's not a good thing. An artist is often expected to develop one style, primarily in one discipline. I've never been able to confine myself that way. So what does it mean to be an artist anymore? What am I supposed to aim for? Is there an end goal? The only thing I've really come to understand as being central, not just to being an artist but to everything one does, is to enjoy the journey. It's about the process of discovery, both inner and outer. I try to appreciate every thing, every soul and every moment I encounter on my path. If we truly are the sum of our experiences, and I do believe that to be true, then it becomes evident to me that we must dedicate ourselves to creating ever new experiences or risk cutting short our lives, alive but not living. In that sense, I find my work to be testaments to those experiences, markers along the "path".
So while I will strive to post new works as often as I can, I'll also toss in relevant reminders of what has come before in an effort to be cognizant of the whole journey and celebrate those experiences which have contributed to the sum of all that I am and hope to be.
So without getting any more verbose or high on my own stink...let's get on with it.
